Read below to learn more indepth about our grades.
Origin: Uji, Japan
This is MAKE’s signature and highest grade matcha.
Heritage Grade is produced in limited quantities under the guidance of a level ten-dan tea master. It represents less than 2% of matcha produced worldwide that still follows traditional farming and processing methods.
We work directly with small, independent farms and pay premium prices for leaves that meet these exacting standards—often selecting only a fraction of each harvest. This level of care, time, and expertise results in a matcha with greater depth, sweetness, and balance—and explains its higher cost.
Origin: Kagoshima, Japan
This is MAKE's JAS Certified Organic matcha.
Imperial Grade is sourced from first spring harvest leaves grown without pesticides or synthetic fertilizers.
It offers a creamy umami profile with remarkable depth, alongside a vibrant green hue, clean aroma, and smooth finish.
Proving that organic doesn’t have to mean bitter when every step is done properly.
Origin: Shizuoka, Japan
This is MAKE's everyday matcha.
Sourced from spring harvest leaves and shade-grown for four weeks, Ceremonial Grade is crafted for daily enjoyment and ritual.
Balanced umami, a bright green color, and a smooth, approachable flavor make it a pleasure to whisk each morning—whether prepared traditionally or mixed into lattes and other matcha drinks.
How we source our tea
Guided by a level 10-dan tea master, MAKE works closely with small, independent farms. These long-standing relationships allow for limited harvests, careful processing, and a level of attention mass-produced matcha simply can’t replicate. Every decision favors integrity over scale.
The truth is, matcha grades aren’t regulated by any governing body, nor are they standardized across the industry. They’ve emerged as shorthand marketing language, often applied inconsistently from one brand to the next.
At MAKE, our grades aren’t arbitrary labels, they reflect real differences in farming, harvesting, and production methods.
Regardless of the grade, every matcha we offer is vibrant, balanced, and delicious—and better than anything you'd find at a cafe, we promise.
Origin: Shizuoka, JapanÂ
This is MAKE's Hojicha matcha.
Sourced from spring tea leaves, this matcha has been lightly roasted after harvesting. The result is a nutty, toasted flavor that is mildly umami and slightly sweet. This beautiful golden tea is smooth, mellow, and because of the lower caffeine content, is easy to enjoy any time of day.Â
